INVENTORY LIST HOW TO
An accurate detailed inventory list is the biggest contributing factor to accurate planning as well as pricing of your move. Simply put, we need to know everything about the actual items you are planning to move. It feels like a hassle to come up with an inventory list but you will find that once you have compiled one it will become your trustiest tool to control your move. The anti-chaos of moving is a good solid LIST, and we all love our lists. We will give you all the tricks and tips to come up with the ultimate inventory list that will give you a 30,000 feet view of your move.

There are many ways to actually compile a list. You can use our online tool and do it online (ask us for a link), or you can do it in an excel sheet or just the trusty old pen a paper. Another option, just call in and tell us what you see around you we will turn your view into an inventory list. Remember that a list can be revisited as many times as you need to so you don’t have to get it right the first time (nobody does). If you forgot an item or went on a shopping spree a week before you move just add to the list. Even on the day of the move, if you need to add something, that is perfectly fine. We have a principle, we leave nothing behind. You want to move it, it’s gonna move.

Step-by-step inventory listing:

  • Go room by room and start with the larger obvious items that you see around you. Go room by room and list the items that can’t fit in a moving box. Most likely it will be the furniture and appliance that you have around the house. If you are working on this list sitting down don’t forget to add the furniture you are sitting on.
  • Make sure you mention if any of the items are fragile (marble or glass tops for tables, glass shelves, etc). If you have fabric-covered (upholstered) items mention those as well (sofas mattresses chair seats etc)
  • The next type of items that need mentioning are items that are often neglected. Look at the walls. Any pictures or mirrors there? Look at the floors. Any carpets or rugs? Add all those to your list. Don’t forget that vacuum cleaner and that Ironing board.
  • Boxes: A very important tip, always overestimate. Do you think you will have 50? Throw in a good 60 or 70. There is nothing more fun than calling us a few days before your move to let us know that actually you have fewer boxes and watching that price go down as we update that inventory with the new smaller number. A Champagne-worthy moment.
  • In the packing tutorial, you will find a detailed description of the various moving boxes that are offered in the market.

Moving is not an exact science your first list will change as you get closer to the move and that is great. Just make sure that your mover is always aware of the changes made. Work with us. Help us, help you.
Now that you are done, look at your list. Yup! This is your moving job! And having reduced it to a list you are its master. You are in full control of the moving job.
Another advantage of actually having that list is that you can just send the same list to all the moving companies you are in touch with. This way you sit back and wait for the quotes knowing that all the moving companies you are in touch with are on the same page as to what you are planning to move. All you have to do is negotiate the services and the price. That’s how you are the master of your move. You’re welcome…
